How To Know If Your Baby Is Having Enough Sleep?

According to doctors, newborn babies are likely to sleep around 18 hours a day during the first two months. Your baby might be oversleeping or sleeping when they should be eating. This is because of overstimulation. Overstimulation during the day can make your baby fussy and agitated due to exhaustion.

Be prepared for your baby to wake up within 40 minutes of her sleep cycle during this period. The sleep pattern of your baby normalizes only as they grow up. It is only after two months that babies start to follow day and night sleep patterns. The sleeping pattern of your baby in the first two weeks will be irregular and unpredictable.

Experts say that up to the first six weeks, it is unlikely for your baby to sleep beyond 35-45 minutes mark. Be prepared, because this will be the most exhausting period for you. You can always assemble duties to your husband and take turns in taking care of your child. This will make sure you’re not tiring yourself out.

How Many Sleeping Hours Should Your Baby Have Throughout The Day?

In the beginning, your baby should be sleeping more. In the first few days, they will sleep up to 18 hours. Most of the time babies will be sleeping during their feeding time

You will notice your baby is more awake during the 3rd month. You will find your baby awake without getting overtired for one and a half-hour stretch. Make sure to feel your baby well within this time gap before he falls asleep again.

By the 6th month mark, your baby needs to be sleeping anywhere around 12-15 hours and time awake between periods of sleep should be 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Your baby is at the developmental stage, which means you need to feed him 5 – 6 times after each sleep cycle.

By the 12th month, the baby will adjust to the sleeping patterns, which are the same as an adult. You will notice they are having a sound sleep throughout the night and being curious about exploring things during the daytime. Babies at ten months old have increased appetite because of the increase in their activity levels.
